Frequently Asked Questions

What is Futsal? Answer - Futsal is the Indoor version of soccer approved by FIFA. In the US its governed by US Futsal (www.futsal.com ),

What Is a "Traveling League”? Answer - This league will play its games in Two locations or more.

How many players on a Futsal team? Answer - Roster limits are open but only 12 may dress for any one game. Four Players and a Goal Keeper play at once.

Who is Penn West Futsal? Answer - Penn West Futsal is the governing body for Futsal in the PA West area,

Can I start a Club? Answer -Yes providing you enter all teams into an affiliated league.

Can I form a league? Answer -Yes providing you meet all the minimum standards set forth by West Penn Futsal.

Is there a State Cup like outdoor Soccer? Answer -Yes Penn West Futsal  holds a State Cup each year, as part of the US Futsal National Championships.

Are there a Regional and National Championship? Answer -Yes there are both. Each year there are Regional Tournaments in February and the National Tournament in July.

Are there A & B Divisions? Yes- there are 6  levels of Futsal Divisions playing in West Penn Futsal Leagues,

Fledgling ( I-League)( For beginners, same as in-house outdoors)

Fledgling Communty Leagues-Leagues of 4 teams organizied by Community Clubs. 

The Breakthrough Futsal (T-League New PaWest Div ,4,5.6)) for players who are novices, and are past the U10 age level.

Prime (Prime League PaWest New Div 1, 2, 3) these are for teams who have advanced players.)
Adult Futsal League - Mens & Womens various age divisions in cluding Open, Over 30, 40, 50

Coed Adult Futsal League-Coed 5v5 league, 1 female player at all times.

What age divisions are allowed in Futsal? Answer -That varies by playing Division. See below for a list of approved playing age groups.

Fledgling Futsal (u6,u7,u8,u9,u10)
Breakthrough Futsal (U10,U12,U14,U16,High School)
Prime League Futsal (u8,u10,u11,u12,u13,u14,u15,u16,u18,)

What is the birthdates cutoff? Answer- Futsal uses the same cutoff date as outdoor soccer Aug. 1st. (Ex) an under-10 cannot have turned 10 prior to Aug 1, of the current season (2009/2010).)

What is the difference between (Entering, and Signing Up) and Registering regards Penn West  Futsal? Answer- The act of (Entering, or Signing Up) means putting a team into competition in a league or a tournament at KEYSTONE INDOOR KICKS or another League/Venue... Registering is the act of registering a coach, player, referee, or team to the United States Futsal Federation.

How many games are there in a League Session of Futsal? Answer there is 12 Games in the Prime League, 8 games in all other leagues.

Is there a second season? Answer-Yes for Breakthrough and fledgling Leagues, it begins in Mid to Late Jan and runs until the end of March.

How many players play at once on a Futsal team? Answer 5, there are 4 field players and a Goal Keeper.

Do you use the walls in Futsal? Answer- No

Is Futsal popular? Answer-Futsal outside the United states is the most popular form of Indoor Soccer by far, it is recognized by FIFA, and has its own World Cup Championship.

Are there other teams in Western Pa.? Answer- Yes West Penn Futsal has been around for 22 years and Keystone Indoor Kicks has been organizing Leagues all that time, however recently the game has really taken off.

Can I get training as a coach? Answer- Yes West Penn Futsal along with Keystone Indoor Kicks will provide your group with a coaching Clinic for a small fee per coach contact Mr. Kicks at 724-864-9330 or email Kicks@nb.net

How do I become a Futsal referee? Answer - You read the rules take a Clinic that the test and then Register with the US Futsal federation.

You mentioned Futsal Has a history in Western Pa.? Answer- Actually Western Pa. is considered a hotbed of Futsal in The USA. Did you know that West Penn Futsal has hosted the US National Championship in 1987, Has been home to 2 National Champions, and has had some of its players go on like Doug Petras former Norwin HS player and Outdoor Pro be called up as The US National teams Goal Keeper, and Thomas Manspeaker from Plum was selected to play with the National team in the World University Games. In addition The former National Futsal team Coach was John Kowalski of Sewickley, and the current coach is former Pittsburgh Spirit player Keith Tozer.

How do I get the Early Bird Discount? Answer-You receive the discount if you apply On-Line. By or on the date noted. If you mail in or hand in your entry you will be charged the full fee.

Do I have to pay up front to get my discount? Answer yes

Do I have to pay the US Futsal Federation Registration fees? Answer- Yes, if you play Futsal we are member of the Federation and as such are obliged to register all our players, in return for this your team and coaches , are insured and you are eligible for the State Cup, National Championship, and various Coaching and Refereeing Clinics

What Kind of shoes can I wear? .Answer- Any flat bottom indoor soccer shoe is ok, no cleats.

Do I have to wear Shin Guards? Answer -Yes for your own protection.

What is Custom or Special Scheduling? Answer Keystone Indoor Kicks throughout its history has endeavored to work out teams scheduling problems. They will ask you for your needs and try to meet them

Can I still enter a team after the deadline? Yes and the Discounts apply however; you should know that it will be based on need.

How Are Referees Paid? Referees are paid by the teams prior to each game the fees are $10.00 per referee Below U15, and $12.00 per referee U15 and up.
